Staff
Eastern Sea Fisheries Joint Committee currently employ 21 members of staff. The Committee have 16 Fishery Officers, their primary role is enforcement of local byelaws and EU and national regulations, however, all of the Officers are multi-skilled and have dual roles.
Sea going Officers
Seven fishery officers are primarily employed for work onboard the Committee’s patrol and research vessel. Each vessel normally operates with a master, mate and engineer with a RIB coxswain on the patrol boat.
Shore Based Officers
Four fishery Officers are based around the district monitoring the landings at the various ports and beaches. Each officer is expected to carry out crewing duties on board any of the vessels when required. The officer in Suffolk also operates a 5.5m RIB (Pisces III)
Research
Three fishery officers undertake scientific research and monitoring, providing annual shellfish stock assessments and other environmental information that is used to inform our fisheries management within the district.
Environment
The ESFJC employs a dedicated Environment Officer whose role is to advise
on environmental issues and, to name a few, liaise with the statutory nature
conservation agencies, environmental ngos, the fishing industry, coastal and
marine developers, ports and harbour authorities.
Finance
The ESFJC finances are administered by a full-time in house Finance Officer.
The priority is to achieve an annual balanced budget and a preliminary forecast
for the forthcoming 3 years.
Administration
The ESFJC employ 2 Administrative Officers who, amongst their many duties,
administer fishing licences, monitor time recording, ensure best value for
and procure office equipment, and protective clothing.
